Travelling West - Photo Ops

Driving west in early January can be difficult, especially when it comes to finding photo opportunities. Winter weather in itself, with its cold, wind, snow, poses a challenge.

This was a quick stop in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. No, we did not spend the night here.

In South Dakota, we made a quick detour through Badlands National Park. I did make a number of photos, but short winter days and a heavy cloud on the west horizon put an end to my photography there.

We spent one day in Yellowstone National Park. The following photo was made at sunrise on the drive between Livingston and Gardiner, Montana.

Yellowstone had very little snow making landscape photography opportunities rare. The day was slow, but we eventually had some good wildlife encounters.

The image below was made near Lethbridge, Alberta.

A morning in Banff National Park yielded some interesting photo opportunities, as in these images.

A hazard of winter travel through the mountains can be delays to allow for snow removal, as illustrated in this photo along the Trans-Canada Highway in Glacier National Park, British Columbia.
