May 16 - Cyprus

Today we decided to drive into the interior mountainous region of Cyprus.

We headed west on the motorway, but decided to make a stop at a supermarket to buy water. The bakeshop items looked so good that we bought a couple goodies. Seeing that there was a place to buy coffee, we thought that we'd have a coffee and eat our halloumi pastry.

Back on the road again, our next stop was at Choirokoitia, Stone Age excavations from 9000 years back.

Following that was a visit to a monastery called Agios Minas. This photo is of the village of Vavla, which is nearby.

We then drove the mountain roads to the village of Lefkara, which is reknown for its lace. The product is nice, but very expensive. But that is understandable when one considers the time the ladies take making each piece. So Veda refrained (so far) from buying.

We next stopped at Maria's restaurant and had meze (a multicourse Cypriot meal). It was great!

Our final stop of this day trip was at Machairas Monastery, as seen in this image.
