December 3 - Serendipity

As this post is being published, I am in Havana with two of my long-time photography mates. I will post some images from there after my return.

Serendipity is defined in the Canadian Oxford Dictionary as "good luck, good fortune."

As a photographer, I find that luck is my best friend. I do try to be in the best place at the best time, try to compose my photos to the best of my abilities, and master the technical aspects so that good luck might not be the reason that I do make a good photograph. Then sometimes serendipity will elevate the photograph's appeal.

M_11_0090M_11_0090Swiss train I was at a train stop in Oerlikon, an area of Zurich. I usually photograph without any preconceived ideas of what images I will find. As this passenger train pulled in, I saw the potential for a graphic image - these bright colours on the side of the car. I quickly made one photo before the train pulled out. I thought that I had an interesting shot.

Later, at home, while processing my RAW files, I spotted my good luck. What makes this image even better, in my mind, is the silhouette in the door window of a passenger boarding the train.

Serendipity!
