September 22 - Last Day of Summer

Our summer here has ended with a lot of cool and rainy weather. Fall colours are beginning to appear, especially in the Lively and Whitefish areas of Greater Sudbury.

Yesterday was overcast, but when the clouds cleared at the horizon at the end of the day, I hurried down the road to one of my favourite close-to-home spots - a wetland on Chief Lake Road. I was treated to a brilliant sunset, as in this photo.

14-09-2114-09-21 So in anticipation of more great skies this morning, I headed out to the Lively area for sunrise. Unfortunately the eastern horizon had some cloud cover. When the sun finally peaked over these clouds, I made the following photograph. There was not a lot of colour in the sky, but there were some interesting clouds and their reflections in this large pond. Its calm was disturbed by this beaver swimming around, checking out his territory.

14-09-22-114-09-22-1 The sun made a brief appearance, so I was able to make this photo of the emerging fall colours near Lively.

14-09-22-214-09-22-2 Then it clouded over for a while, followed by bright sunny conditions - not great for autumn images.

Our forecast is calling for a week of very warm days. I'm hoping for cool nights, great skies, and brilliantly coloured leaves. I'll keep you posted.
