January 22 - Vernon

_02A3325_02A3325 We left our lodgings in Canmore on Saturday morning, but not before stopping next door to the inn at a new French pastry shop, Le Fournil Bakery.

_02A3334_02A3334 We had to buy some of its offerings: these two exquisite pastries (lemon meringue and chocolate caramel) and two almond croissants. Needless to say, all were very good. After travelling in Europe for three weeks and indulging in the flaky croissants made there, it was a real treat to find some here which were just as well-made. These pastries we shared with the Hunkins that evening in Vernon.

The drive from Canmore was fine, but the roads were wet all the way, with snow in Rogers Pass. We finally hit dry roads and sunshine near Sicamous.

Sunday we spent gathering our ski equipment and unpacking items into "our" house, and having dinner with the Hunkins and the Riehls - foie gras, salad, lamb shanks, and Ex Nihilo Pinot Noirs.

Monday was my first skiing day at Silver Star, a great first day because it was bright and sunny. I skied the front side with Terry Brill while Veda went snowshoeing.

Today I skied with Murray Goring. The conditions were even better, as we had fresh powder from an overnight snowfall. My legs are telling me that I had two great days. Many more to come!
