Our hotel, Hotel Mundial, offered an excellent breakfast buffet, with numerous choices. A great start to the day.
Since this hotel is well situated, we can walk to many sites, which is what we did today.
We began by taking an escalator nearby part way up a hill and then continued walking uphill to Castelo de Sao Jorge (St. George's Castle), 11th century hilltop fortifications, which offer great views of Lisbon.

We then roamed about the ruins of these fortifications.

We then walked into the Alfama, Lisbon's district of narrow winding streets and alleys.
But the frequent drizzles turned into rain, so we hopped on one of the famous trams, which broke down. Lucky for us, we had its shelter when the rains were the heaviest. But the rains had subsided and we walked back to our hotel to dry off.
Later in the afternoon, we returned to again explore the Alfama. Here are some photos from our time there.

_02A0361 On our way back to the hotel, we chose a restaurant for our dinner, mainly because they had live fado music.

The music was good, the food not so, but the wine made up for it.
Even after a bottle of wine, we found our way back to Hotel Mundial.
