March 2 - Point of View, Part 2

In my previous post, I talked about searching for higher perspectives for your photos, that is, higher than normal eye level.

There are also occasions when you should get lower than your normal standing position. One such situation would be when you are taking photos of young children.

Rather than looking down on the child, crouch down to make your portrait from the subject's eye level.

2-P_19_02842-P_19_0284 This same suggestion is applicable to your wildlife images.

4-T_07_06244-T_07_0624Parade through old town For this photo, I chose a lower perspective, which makes the band members appear more imposing.

This parade was in Rothenburg, along the Romantic Road in Germany.

My lower point of view in the following photograph taken in Venice allowed me to include the reflections in the water puddles.

6-S_15_00666-S_15_0066 In my pursuit of nature images, a low point of view puts more emphasis on the foreground, as in this photo taken of a fisherman at Bridal Veil Falls, Kagawong, Manitoulin Island.

By placing my camera near ground level and close to this crack in the limestone alvar, I was able to exaggerate its size and shape.

8-S_20_04018-S_20_0401Jane Goodall Trail Getting close to the ground permitted me to use the roots as lead-in lines toward the main subject, this very old white pine stump located along the Jane Goodall Trail at Coniston.

9-S_20_01319-S_20_0131 Looking up from a low point of view emphasizes the strength and solidity of these poplars.

10-S_06_022010-S_06_0220Morning frost on mushroom gills Getting to ground level was the only way that I could photograph the frosted gills of this mushroom.

Looking up from the base of these Queen Anne's Lace blossoms creates a unique eye-catching image.

Similarly I placed my camera on the ground among these California Poppies, again producing a different image, one that is attention-grabbing also because of its colour contrast.

12-U_10_028312-U_10_0283 Choosing a unique perspective from which to make your photographs, whether from on high or as low as you can go, can be a method to more easily catch the viewer's attention in this world of almost infinite variations posted on social media.
