Yesterday was the day to check out of our Lisbon hotel and set out on the road. We picked up our rental car mid-day and headed out of town.

Our destination for the night was Evora, to the east of Lisbon.

After driving close to 50 kilometers, we started to think that we were not going in the proper direction. Sure enough, we were going north instead of east. The agent at the rental shop had set our GPS to the wrong destination. So we had to back track, go back toward Lisbon and get on the proper toll road. We were finally headed in the direction of Evora. A highlight was our crossing on the seventeen-kilometer-long Vasco da Gama bridge just east of Lisbon.

_02A0646 Just west of Evora, I saw a sign for some ancient ruins. So we made a u-turn and drove some ten kilometers on a dirt road until we came to the site: Cromeleque dos Almendres. This site consists of a large oval of 95 rounded granite monoliths, some of which are shown in the above photo. Then we continued into Evora.

Our GPS failed us again - the address of our guest house within the walled inner town was not available.

_02A0670 This is the entrance to our lodgings. It was quite spartan, but very clean and comfortable, for less than 40 Euros.

We ate dinner (Portuguese traditional cod fish) at the restaurant next door. I've had it once and that's it!

_02A0702 The next day, after a frustrating time, we came upon some of the historic buildings within the walls. This photo was taken from the tower of the 16th century cathedral.
