Day 1 - Arrival in Europe

We left home on Thursday morning, after saying good-bye to Heidi.

We drove to Pearson Airport to catch our evening flight on Icelandair.

This is daybreak from over the west of Iceland.

It was a long wait for our connecting flight to Munich at Keflavik airport.

Keflavik was a zoo. We were supposed to have a one-hour layover, but that was to become much longer. The halls and stairway to passport control were jammed with passengers from a number of flights. We heard that the problem was with staff shortages.

We got pulled out of the throng at the last moment as the flight was waiting for us. We were the last to board the plane, 45 minutes after our scheduled departure time.

This was the view as we left Iceland.

This scene is close to Munich airport, as we were coming in for the landing.

Getting our rental car became another issue.

But we finally were on the road to our prebooked hotel in Obertaufkirchen.

We stayed at Brauerei Stierberg, which, as the name implies, is also a brewery.

Next issue: the restaurant was closed, as were other restaurants in the area. Some locals we talked to suggested we go to Dorf, about 10 kilometers away. Their restaurants were also closed, but we found a supermarket there.

So this was our "dinner table" that first night.

A bottle on Brunello sure helped!

The accommodations and breakfast were great.

Now we are heading to Salzburg.
