Dat 2 - Into Austria

This morning, after doing some organizing of our luggage, we left our guest house in Stierberg, Germany.

It was a great place to stay, with an excellent breakfast.

The owners talked about their having spent time skiing in British Columbia.

We drove the autobahn and eventually crossed into Austria. We spotted this Canadian flag on a barn in the village of Hofweiden.

Then on to Salzburg.

After some searching we finally located the parking garage in the centre of the old city, beneath the castle.

We took the funicular up to Hohensalzburg castle. This is a view of the city from the castle.

There was a medieval festival in progress. This was one of the performers.

Back in the town, these are some of the carriages that take tourists around the town.

This couple were on a tour before their wedding.

We then left Salzburg, driving south, toward a mountain barrier. First we had a coffee stop in Hallein, off the autobahn. Then after three tunnels on this autobahn, we emerged in these beautiful valleys. We were finally "in the mountains." We headed to Bischofshofen where we had booked an airb&b. This accommodation was a four kilometre drive up a narrow switchback road above the village.

But what an astounding location.

This is our apartment house.

Just below this place was a restaurant where we had our dinner. We started with a fantastic carpacchio made with local beef, along with an Austrian Pinot Noir house wine. Our main was...what else but wiener schnitzel. Superb.
