Day 5 - Driving South

September 06, 2022  •  Leave a Comment

On this sunny morning, we left Bischofshofen, heading south to Slovenia.

After driving a few kilometres on the autobahn, we decided to take a small road that paralleled the big highway.

This was a narrow winding road that took us over two passes which were ski areas. The autobahn would have been a tunnel through this region.

This is the scene after the two passes.

We next visited Burg Mauterndorf, an old restored castle.

Beyond Mauterndorf, as we drove the small highway, we could see above us the autobahn. For this long section through this valley, we could see the autobahn above us. It was completely a bridge, as this photo illustrates.

It is amazing. Would they build roads this way in Canada?

This is the road through the village of Mauterndorf.

Give them coffee and all is good.

We stopped for the night at this hotel near Spittal, still in Austria.
