Day 4 - Dachstein

This morning we had a lot of fog where we are staying at our airb&b above the valley of Bischofshofen.

The views from here were spectacular as the fog moved around.

Today we had decided was the day we would go up the cable cars at Obertraun.

After stopping at St. Martin for our morning coffee, we drove past Hallstatt to the village of Obertraun, on the shore of Lake Hallstatt.

After some circling around, we found the cable car station.

This trip up took us on two different gondolas to Dachstein Krippenstein summit.

There then was a thirty minute walk to the 5fingers.

What, you ask, are the 5fingers. Here they are.

This structure is called 5fingers, five platforms that jut out from the edge of the mountain.

That is Lake Hallstatt below.

This is Hallstatt Glacier in Dachstein Salzkammergut World Heritage Region.

The views from up here were fantastic, as was the mountain air. It was warm and sunny, and lucky for us, no wind.

Reluctant as we were to leave, we finally descended the gondola and back to the car for the one hour drive back to our airb&b.

This was our routine coffee stop on the way back.

We also stopped to pick up some groceries - frozen pizzas to cook along with some beer. That would be dinner.

As we arrived at our room, it started to rain. But the reward from this shower was this spectacular rainbow over the valley below and the mountains beyond. This is one of many images I made of that rainbow.

To top off a great day, our hostess brought us some cake from her previous day's party.
