Greek Islands Trip - Day 13

September 16, 2012  •  Leave a Comment

Hello again from the balcony of our guest house in Prokopios, Naxos. Ted and I are here doing this missive and occasionally plugging our ears because of the passing vehicle traffic. But this is more enjoyable today because the owner's mother, whose living area we are sitting beside, brought us some of her local white wine and some cheese. A very thoughtful gesture it was!

Today we drove the northwest coastal road up to the northern tip of Naxos. Here we stopped for our lunch at Apollon , which you can see in the attached photo. We had a meal at the restaurant on the right in the photo. Ted had fish - a whole fish, head, eyes, tail, etc. None of us made the same choice.
The road up to here was very rugged and winding. At times we were very high above the sea, looking down steep cliffs. We were probably about 400 metres in altitude. But up here between high rocky outcrops there were valleys that were quite green and fertile. What I enjoyed about being up there was that it clouded over and was considerably cooler than at sea level.
