Last week I made two visits to Manitoulin Island. I was going because this was peak time for blooming Marsh Marigolds and Trilliums.
I chose these specific days for my photo trips because I knew that the forecast was for overcast conditions with chances of light rain. These are ideal conditions for photographing wild flowers because the lighting is even: that is, there are no harsh shadows with brightly lit sunny areas. A light rain also helps to saturate the flowers' colours.
Here are three photos that I made on Manitoulin.
Manitoulin 1
Manitoulin 2
These weather conditions are also usually the best for photographing waterfalls, as illustrated in this photo of Bridal Veil Falls.
Manitoulin 3 The added bonus of going to Manitoulin at this time of year was that I was able to come home with some fresh fiddleheads. These were a great accompaniment to a rare steak and a great bottle of wine that evening.
