November 3 - Portugal, Day 17

Today we were heading to the Douro River area. We first headed west along the motorway, retracing our route from two days ago. But this time we saw the landscape because we had no heavy fog. We then turned off this motorway and onto another going north.

_02A1734_02A1734 These have been excellent roads with very little traffic, though we have no idea how many Euros our toll bill will be.

_02A1743_02A1743 We started at sea level, and here we were at an altitude of 950 meters, in a barren landscape  The hill tops and ridges had numerous wind turbines. We had seen a manufacturing plant of these blades near Vagos.

_02A1769_02A1769 We're staying in Tabucao, south of the Douro valley.

_02A1785_02A1785 This area has both olive groves and vineyards on the terraced hillsides.

_02A1782_02A1782 There will be no machine picking these grapes.

We're hoping that the rain tonight will let up tomorrow.
