Day 3 - Hallstatt

Jane and Veda pose after our morning breakfast in the hills above Bischofshofen.

We set out to visit Hallstatt, reputed to be the most beautiful village on a lake.

But first we went on an unnecessary detour because we punched incorrect information into our GPS.

After realizing our error, we backtracked and eventually arrived at Hallstatt.

Here are a few photos from our walk in Hallstatt.

It is a beautiful spot, but very touristy.

On our return drive to our airb&b, we chanced upon a festival in St. Martin.

Six valley villages host this annual festival by turn. It is staged as a tribute to the local farmers.

We missed seeing most of he decorated tractors, etc.

Many of the locals were dressed in traditional Tyrolian clothing.

Unfortunately most of the festivities had been completed by the time we arrived.

But we did enjoy sausages with pommes frites and beer.

We topped that off with coffee and home-made cake.

We arranged one extra night's stay at our airb&b, planning to return to the Hallstatt Lake area to go up the cable cars on Dachstein Krippenstein mountain for the walks and the views.
