Greek Islands Trip - Day 17

September 20, 2012  •  Leave a Comment

Hello from fantastic Santorini,

We spent the day in Oia (the Greeks spell it "Ia") this morning and this evening, enjoying its ambience. Mid-day we lolled around the pool at our hotel.
The photo attached is of Oia this morning. I hope you can get from it an idea of how this village is perched on the edge of the caldera.

Photo tip: One of the difficulties of photographing, which in essence is depicting a three-dimensional scene in two dimensions, is to create the impression of size, scale, or distance. In the above photo, if you cover the boat that is in the upper left of the image, note how you cannot tell how high up this village is (which was my intent), or in other words, see the scale of the size of the waterway below. So be on the lookout for elements which you can include within the frame to show the viewer the relative differences in size.
