April 20 - Homeward Bound

April 20, 2019  •  Leave a Comment

We are finally on our way home after our three months in Vernon. It was again another wonderful winter, with all the friends we have made in our time there, though the skiing at times was marginal.

After breakfast with Marian and Garth, we left the Okanagan on a rainy day. This was the only subject I photographed that day.

_02A4149_02A4149 We took a slight detour via Salmon Arm so that I could photograph these buildings I had seen a week earlier.

We drove east along Highway 1 on a cloudy and drizzly day to spend the night in Canmore.

_02A4153_02A4153 This was our room (Three Sisters) at our favourite lodging, Lady Macdonald Country Inn.

Friday was a dull overcast day with spurts of rain until the skies cleared just west of Medicine Hat.

_02A4165_02A4165 This is the Sammis Teepee, billed as the world's largest.

_02A4176_02A4176 Then we entered Saskatchewan.

_02A4171_02A4171 The prairies as far as Swift Current, where we stopped on our second night, are not flat, but undulating.

Saskatchewan wind power!

_02A4181_02A4181 No, this is not snow, but gypsum, which is mined at Chaplin.

_02A4189_02A4189 This is the moose which folks in Moose Jaw claim is the world's tallest. This claim brought about a friendly spat with Norway where a claim was made that their moose was slightly taller. This one is supposed to get an antler extension to remain the champion.

Do we really care?

_02A4196_02A4196 Beginning west of Moose Jaw the landscape is flat, flat, flat, as in this photo of Veda near Regina.

The Flat Earth Society could convince many here.

_02A4201_02A4201 Manitoba is a continuation of these flat prairie land. This farm is near Virden.

Tonight we are in Brandon.

Tomorrow morning the trek continues.
