September 19 - Visitors from Sweden

September 19, 2019  •  Leave a Comment

Last weekend we received a visit from Swedish friends, Kicki and Thomas Helin, and Kerstin and Bertil Ernberg, along with their daughter Saga.

We met all these people a number of years ago when we visited Sweden when our niece, Grace, was there on a Rotary exchange. The Helins and Ernbergs were two of her host families.

So last Friday morning we were in South Baymouth (on Manitoulin Island) to meet them and Grace and her husband Gaelen as they arrived on the Chi-Cheemaun.

P_19_0137P_19_0137 Unfortunately the morning was rainy, but that did not dampen the reunion.

But we did luck out later that day, as the rain let up and we were able to enjoy a visit to Bridal Veil Falls.

Next we drove to Gore Bay for some beverages at Split Rail Brewery.

Then we backtracked and stopped at Burdeniuk's camp on Lake Mindemoya.

P_19_0154P_19_0154 Rick greeted us with a warming fire in his new wood stove, and wine and nibblers.

We then headed to our Air B&B in Providence Bay, and an evening dinner at the Old School House.

The next day Veda and I left ahead of the others to prepare for that evening's dinner, while the rest of the crew hiked the Cup and Saucer Trail.

That night, dinner at our place, along with Caroline and Ted, and then a return brunch at their home on Sunday Morning.

That afternoon we visited Dynamic Earth and then had the requisite photo session at the Big Nickel.

P_19_0161P_19_0161 We concluded our touring with a walk along the boardwalk at Bell Park.

Monday we drove out to Onaping Falls.

P_19_0164P_19_0164 We had to stop at a Tim Horton's en route to pick up the quintessential Canadian beverage, which our guests enjoyed at the A. Y. Jackson Lookout.

We spent some time walking the trails here, and then returned home. Our visitors went for another walk, this time in Kivi Park, before dinner chez nous.

P_19_0167P_19_0167 Tuesday morning was time to say good bye. So a final group photo before they departed for Toronto and Niagara Falls on the last leg of their Canadian holiday. So, til we meet again!

It was wonderful to be able to show them some of the sites of our region.
