June 8 - Colour as a Subject, Revisited

This is a followup to a previous blog on looking for colour.

Colour on its own does not always make for an interesting photograph. Design elements are usually necessary, though the image itself at times can just be about colour. Red is the colour that quickly attracts attention. These two images rely on the red-coloured wall for just that.

1-T_14_0171 (1)1-T_14_0171 (1)The Temple Bar, Dublin, Ireland The temple Bar in Dublin stands out in the street all because of its red colour.

2-240001082-24000108Capelin drying Similarly the red clapboard siding is the attraction behind the racks of drying capelin in Bonavista, Newfoundland.

Just a little splash of red can enhance an ordinary image as in these two photos taken in Italy.

3-T_16_07873-T_16_0787 4-T_16_04954-T_16_0495 Multicoloured subjects are just as appealing as large swaths of red.

5-T_14_00425-T_14_0042Wall between Grteek and Turkish sectors Here colourful graffiti is painted on this wall dividing Greek and Turkish sectors of Nicosia, Cyprus.

6-M_20_00846-M_20_0084Giant mural on old hospital This fence is a barrier for viewers from the giant mural in Sudbury, but the many colours are the real subject.

Softer pastel hues with their calm mood are equally attractive for photos.

7-T_12_02407-T_12_0240 The contrasting pink of this rose provides a focal point on this door in Mykonos.

8-T_11_05478-T_11_0547 This photo of these old shutters from Seguret, France, is similar.

9-C_19_00899-C_19_0089 Here you see a similar colour contrast, but on a larger scale at this theatre entrance in Oliver, British Columbia.

10-C_18_025710-C_18_0257 These buildings in Nipigon attracted me only because of the bright colours.

Abstract images can often be fascinating when they are about only colour.

11-C_15_012211-C_15_0122 These reflections I spotted in Victoria's Fisherman's Village.

These colours were created with a long exposure while walking through the Swarovski display in Austria.

12-T_18_010912-T_18_0109 Colour is everywhere. As a photographer you should train your eye to look beyond the subject matter to see these situations.

14-97110314-971103 I'm sure that I don't have to identify the subject, but note that there are images everywhere.

So perhaps you could make colour one of your photographic explorations.
