14-06-13-114-06-13-1 Yesterday we had a drizzly morning in County Clare. This photo shows part of the village of Doolin where we spent the night. We then drove along the coast in an area called The Burren.

From here we headed toward Galway and then south into County Tipperary. The rain finally let up, but the skies remained cloudy.

We searched out Lough Gur and the Great Stone Circle at Grange. This is one of the largest stone circles, about 47 meters in diameter and consisting of about 113 stones. It is believed to have been constructed about 5000 years ago. In spite of this, it is not well marked or promoted. It also sits on private property. In this photo you see farmer Tim Casey, who owns this land.

Following this visit, we drove on to the village of Bruff, the ancestral home of JFK's mother. Here we had dinner and a pint at Clancy's Pub. Here you see Jack Clancy instructing me on the correct way to pour a glass of Guinness.

14-06-13-414-06-13-4 Friday the 13th, as you can see, was a very lucky day for us.

14-06-14-214-06-14-2Holy Trinity Church (15th century) This photo was made at Holy Trinity Church in Fethard, County Tipperary. The main part of this church dates from the late part of the 15th century. It is one of the few medieval churches in Ireland that has retained its roof. Most of them are now only standing walls and are in ruins.
