June 15 - County Wicklow, Ireland

We awoke this morning to sunny skies in Enniscorthy in the southeast county of Wexford. This is an important agricultural region.

This photo was made in the hills north of the city.

Here we discovered Glendalough, which attracts visitors because of its two lakes. But to us the interesting place was the substantial remains of a monastic settlement founded in AD 498, but sacked by Vikings and finally by the English in 1398. There were later efforts to rebuild, but these eventually failed.

This image was made at this site.
