I recently spent a day photographing around Sudbury with my friend Mike Grandmaison, who was in town on an assignment to document the changes to Sudbury's landscape in the thirty years of the massive regreening project.
We began the day at Lake Laurentian Conservation Area. When we arrived we encountered a movie film crew. But we were able to do our thing without conflicting with their filming.

As we awaited the sunrise, fog moved in across the lake. We then climbed the trail up on this ridge.

This photo is of the small pond at the entrance to the conservation area.
After a photo stop at the site of the first soil regeneration and tree plantings, it was time for a lunch break.
After that, we went searching for vantage points which would provide views of the reforested hills of the city.

These two photos I made near the Kingsway in New Sudbury.
Our final destination was at the Jane Goodall Trail near Coniston.

This image illustrates the hills that were blackened in the early years of mining by sulphur dioxide emissions.
These hills have started to regenerate on their own - much more slowly than areas replanted in the program.

On Thursday Veda and I depart for a holiday in Portugal.
